33% of the US population deals with heartburn, acid reflux or GERD1
With the antacid industry projected to reach $3.73 billion by 2030, it’s clear that digestive discomfort remains a widespread issue in the U.S. An estimated 33%, and growing, of the population experiences heartburn, acid reflux, or GERD, conditions that often lead doctors to recommend a low acid diet.
For many consumers, enjoying everyday favorites like pasta means turning to antacids just to avoid discomfort. This ongoing reliance on medication not only impacts overall quality of life but also highlights a growing demand for low acid food options.

The Challenge
Regulations driving high acid products
A few years ago, my younger son began struggling with acid reflux and was put on a low acid diet. When I couldn’t find a low acid pasta sauce anywhere, that led me to ask a simple question: with so many people suffering from heartburn and acid reflux, why doesn’t this product exist?
As mandated by the governmental USDA/FDA agencies, all current traditionally packed pasta sauces must be packed at a 4.4pH or lower, maintaining a high acid sauce.
The 4.4pH being the minimum allowable level makes traditional packaging of low acid pasta sauces nearly impossible. Most of the pasta sauces in the market average a lower 4.0pH level.
Note, the lower the pH level, the higher the acidity measures.
